Greg Lukianoff

"The FIRE lawyer who paired CBT with campus speech fights."

Greg Lukianoff is an American First Amendment lawyer and president of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE). After a severe depression in the 2000s he used cognitive behavioral therapy, then noticed the same cognitive distortions — catastrophizing, mind-reading, emotional reasoning — showing up in campus speech fights. With Jonathan Haidt he expanded a 2015 Atlantic essay into The Coddling of the American Mind (2018), a map of three untruths that train fragility and a case for putting some friction back into childhood, campus, and work without cruelty.
