Gretchen Rubin

Gretchen Rubin

"The Yale-trained lawyer turned happiness researcher who mapped the four ways people respond to habits."

Gretchen Rubin is an American writer and podcaster who has spent nearly two decades studying happiness and habits. A graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, she clerked for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor before realizing, mid-clerkship, that she wanted to write rather than practice law. Her memoir-meets-research project "The Happiness Project" spent over two years on the New York Times bestseller list, and she followed it with "Better Than Before," which turns her research toward the mechanics of habit change itself. Rubin also co-hosts the top-rated "Happier with Gretchen Rubin" podcast and created the Four Tendencies personality framework, now used by readers worldwide to diagnose why some habits stick and others don't.
