Jason Fung, MD

"Toronto nephrologist and fasting expert who argues Type 2 diabetes is reversible, not just manageable."

Jason Fung, MD, is a Toronto-based nephrologist (kidney specialist) and one of the world's leading experts on intermittent fasting and low-carbohydrate diets for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes and obesity. After years of managing dialysis patients whose kidney failure was rooted in unchecked diabetes, Fung became convinced that standard care was treating symptoms rather than the disease itself. In 2010 he founded the Intensive Dietary Management (IDM) Program in Toronto, a clinic dedicated to reversing Type 2 diabetes and obesity through therapeutic fasting and dietary change rather than escalating medication. He is the author of the bestselling The Obesity Code and The Complete Guide to Fasting, and his work has influenced how thousands of clinicians and patients think about insulin, weight, and metabolic disease.

The Twin Cycle Hypothesis

Roy Taylor's model showing fatty liver and fatty pancreas as two reinforcing, and reversible, cycles driving diabetes.

Personal Fat Threshold

Each person has a genetic ceiling for safely storing fat; once exceeded, fat overflows into organs and triggers disease.
